A credit union with roots stretching back to 1938 is putting its name on one of Baltimore's biggest fall race days. APG Federal Credit Union has signed on as both the race sponsor of the Baltimore Running Festival's 10K distance and the festival's official bank sponsor, organizer Corrigan Sports Enterprises announced this week.

The partnership lands ahead of the 26th annual Baltimore Running Festival, set for October 17, when more than 14,000 runners from around the world are expected to converge on the city. The festival spans four distances: a full marathon, the CareFirst Half Marathon, the APG Federal Credit Union 10K, and a 5K.

Lee Corrigan, CSE's president and race director, welcomed the addition. "It's great to have a new sponsor join our corporate partners who understands the importance of this community event for the city," Corrigan said. "APG Federal Credit Union's support will enable us to continue delivering a world-class race experience for our 10K runners."

APG Federal Credit Union holds $2.6 billion in assets and serves more than 183,000 members across Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford and Cecil counties. The credit union's geographic footprint aligns closely with the festival's home base: the 10K's 6.2-mile course starts at 8 a.m. at Russell and Camden Streets, just outside Oriole Park at Camden Yards near Pickles Pub, where 10K runners line up alongside the full marathoners.

The 10K has built a following since joining the festival's distance lineup. The course's hills have drawn particular praise from returning runners, one of whom wrote on the race's official site: "I love the race course for the 10k! Do not change it! I love the hills and fact that it starts at 8 am. It is perfect! I plan on running it again next year and am recommending it to my friends."

The broader festival carries significant financial weight for the city. The event generates nearly $40 million in economic impact annually and has raised more than $13 million for local charities since its launch in 2001.

Runners interested in the 10K can register online at thebaltimoremarathon.com by selecting the race distance. Online registration closes October 16 at 6:00 p.m., or earlier if the field fills. In-person registration will be available at packet pickup if space remains. The festival does not accept mailed, faxed, or emailed entries and offers no refunds or race transfers, though runners can upgrade to a longer distance, downgrade to a shorter one, or defer their entry, with deadlines detailed on the event's FAQ page.
