Baltimore Magazine Celebrates City's Best Restaurants With Eight-Chef Tasting Event
Eight of Baltimore's most celebrated chefs served signature courses at The Penguin Room on March 19 in Baltimore Magazine's sold-out Best Restaurants tasting event.

Eight restaurants from Baltimore Magazine's Best Restaurants issue converged at The Penguin Room on March 19 for a four-hour prix fixe dinner that brought together some of the city's most recognized kitchens under one roof.
The event, hosted by Baltimore Magazine, drew the food community for an eight-course seated dinner running from 6 to 10 P.M. Each of the eight participating chefs served one signature course, with the menu predetermined and no substitutions offered. Oleum, Magdalena, Alma Cocina Latina, True Chesapeake, Marta, The Duchess, Gunther & Co., and Wye Oak Tavern each contributed a course to the progression.
Tickets covered food, drinks, tax, and gratuity for the main event. Guests who arrived early or stayed late could purchase additional drinks at True Chesapeake's pre-party and after-party, which were not included in the ticket price. The event encouraged creative cocktail attire, reflecting what Baltimore Magazine described as "an elevated atmosphere where Baltimore's food scene shines."

Organizers had stressed ticket scarcity in the weeks leading up to the event, warning prospective attendees that seats were "extremely limited" and urging groups planning to sit together to email a seating request by March 12. The deadline underscored just how compact the gathering was designed to be: a single exclusive table shared by chefs and guests alike, rather than a sprawling festival format.
The eight restaurants featured represent a cross-section of Baltimore dining, from the Venezuelan-inflected cooking at Alma Cocina Latina to the Chesapeake-focused menu at True Chesapeake and the neighborhood anchor feel of Wye Oak Tavern. Magdalena, Marta, The Duchess, Gunther & Co., and Oleum rounded out the lineup, each earning their place through recognition in Baltimore Magazine's annual Best Restaurants coverage.
