Darius Wolfe, 20, of Brooklyn, Maryland, was convicted this week of armed carjacking, two counts of first-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, stemming from an August 21, 2024 attack on Brattle Road in Baltimore County that left an 87-year-old woman with a fractured pelvis, collapsed lung, fractured ribs, a broken ankle, and fractures to both legs.

The conviction, announced March 19 by the Baltimore County State's Attorney, grew out of a brutal sequence that began when a 66-year-old woman stepped out of her car to drop off groceries for her elderly mother. Three men in ski masks and dark clothing, armed with a handgun, confronted her at the trunk. As she reached into the car to grab her keys from the cup holder, the man who slid into the driver's seat slammed the door on her hand, pinning her. The car then pulled away with her still attached.

"So when they started driving off, they were dragging me," the 66-year-old told WMAR in a 2024 interview. "And I guess my mother was trying to hold me, or she was trying to do something because I didn't realize until they left with the car that they had run over her. Then when I walked back to her, she was lying in a pool of blood."

The 66-year-old herself suffered a brain bleed, a fractured toe, and abrasions. Her mother was transported to Shock Trauma.

Detectives recovered the vehicle using a vehicle tracker and license plate readers. That investigation led them to Wolfe, who was identified as one of the three attackers. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The other two men who participated in the attack have not been publicly identified or charged in reporting available as of this week.

Wolfe is scheduled to be sentenced on April 20, 2026. The charges he was convicted on carry significant prison exposure, and the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office has not yet released sentencing recommendations.

Vehicle thefts in Baltimore County have fallen sharply in recent years, dropping 32 percent from 4,295 cases in 2023 to 2,907 in 2025, according to Baltimore County police data. So far in 2026, the county has recorded 378 vehicle thefts. The carjacking on Brattle Road remains among the most violent incidents within that trend, its consequences measured in collapsed lungs and shattered bones rather than stolen property alone.
