Baltimore police investigate death of 1-year-old found in car

Baltimore County police also investigated the death of a 1-year-old child who died a month after a crash in Pikesville that killed a woman and injured the infant in the multi-vehicle collision.

The Baltimore case underscores the danger of parked cars during extreme heat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns adults never to leave a child alone in a vehicle and to lock vehicles even when no child is expected to be inside. Safety advocates have long stressed that a car can become dangerous quickly on hot days, especially for infants and toddlers.

Baltimore City has also been operating under Code Red extreme heat precautions this summer. The city says residents who need cooling center information on Code Red days can call 311, and anyone facing a heat-related medical emergency should call 911. The Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services says city agencies coordinate cooling center information and cold water access points during Code Red season, part of a wider response that also includes emergency services for people exposed to dangerous heat.
