Three violent incidents, from the Inner Harbor to Lexington Market, hit downtown Baltimore in less than 12 hours and within about a mile of one another, feeding new anxiety among people who live, work and visit the corridor.

Police said a 38-year-old man was stabbed and assaulted around 11:20 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of Light Street, near the Inner Harbor. Investigators said the attack involved a group of unidentified juveniles. The victim had apparent stab wounds to the body and a head injury and was taken to a nearby hospital. By Sunday evening, police had not announced any arrests.

Just after midnight Sunday, police said a 20-year-old man was assaulted and robbed while riding a scooter near the 400 block of West Baltimore Street, close to the Hippodrome Theatre. Officers said three unidentified males were involved in that case.

Hours later, around 11:20 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting near the 200 block of North Eutaw Street, across from Lexington Market. Police found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound that was believed to be non-life-threatening.

Taken together, the cases widened concern about a downtown corridor that depends on steady foot traffic from residents, commuters, hospitality workers and visitors moving between the Inner Harbor, the market district and the theater block. In recent months, police have also investigated other violent episodes downtown tied to teens and juveniles, including a March shooting near the Science Center that did not injure anyone and a September case on East Pratt Street in which an 18-year-old male was shot. Police also investigated an unarmed robbery inside Harbor Place Pavilion involving a 17-year-old male, and later reported they were searching for multiple suspects, including at least four teenagers, after armed robberies downtown.

That pattern has left some downtown Baltimore residents openly uneasy. One resident said, "We need more help," while another said the violence was shocking in an area she remembered as community-based and safe. Nearby business owners have also said repeated vandalism and assaults have strained confidence along Light Street and beyond.

Baltimore police are asking witnesses to contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP as detectives continue to sort through the weekend’s violence and whether the downtown cluster reflects a broader change in who is driving crime in the corridor.
