A 34-year-old man was left in critical condition early Tuesday after being shot in the 4500 block of Erdman Avenue, prompting Baltimore police to close the east Baltimore thoroughfare for several hours while Eastern District detectives worked the scene.
Officers responded to the shooting at approximately 1:56 a.m. on March 17 and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. No arrests have been reported.
Police set a crime-scene perimeter stretching along Erdman Avenue between Sinclair Lane and Federal Street, shutting down the corridor to traffic. Crime lab technicians were observed photographing a car that had crashed into a fence near the scene, though police have not confirmed whether the crash was connected to the shooting.

No suspect description or motive has been released, and the victim's identity has not been made public.
Eastern District detectives are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-396-2433. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LockUp.
