A building on the 2100 block of Garrison Boulevard that the Maryland Department of Health had already ordered to relocate its senior residents over safety concerns erupted in a two-alarm fire Saturday night, injuring two residents and a Baltimore firefighter in the Mount Holly neighborhood of northwest Baltimore.

Baltimore Fire Department crews responded to the 2100 block around 8:39 p.m. on March 28. On arrival, firefighters found visible smoke and fire already pouring from the building. The blaze was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, and officials said it was being brought under control as crews worked through the scene Saturday evening.

Two residents and one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Several other residents were displaced from the building in the aftermath of the blaze.

The fire draws renewed attention to a property that state health officials had already flagged for significant regulatory action. The Maryland Department of Health had previously issued an order requiring the building to relocate its senior residents, citing safety issues, a directive that predated Saturday's emergency. That prior order reflects a finding by state officials that conditions at the Garrison Boulevard address posed risks to older occupants before the fire ever broke out. The Baltimore Fire Department investigated the blaze and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
