Severe Storms, Tornado Warnings Leave Thousands Without Power Across Baltimore
Tornado warnings and a fast-moving storm line knocked out power to more than 10,300 BGE customers across the Baltimore region Wednesday night.

A fast-moving line of severe storms swept through the Baltimore region Wednesday night, triggering tornado warnings, downing trees and power lines, and knocking out electricity for more than 10,300 people and businesses across four jurisdictions, according to BGE's outage map.
Howard County absorbed the heaviest share of the damage. As of 9:52 p.m., 4,784 outages had been reported there, making it the hardest-hit jurisdiction in the region. Baltimore County was close behind, with nearly 4,000 customers in the dark. Baltimore City recorded 850 outages, while Carroll County reported 763 customers affected. The county-level figures, all drawn from BGE's real-time outage map, align with a broader estimate from local TV reporting that put total outages somewhere between 10,000 and 12,000 customers.
Both Baltimore City and Baltimore County were placed under tornado warnings as the storm line moved through. The warnings, combined with downed trees and severed power lines, marked one of the more disruptive storm events to hit the region in recent months. No injuries or confirmed tornado touchdowns had been reported in available reporting as of Wednesday night, though those details remained unconfirmed pending statements from the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington office and local emergency management agencies.
BGE had not publicly released restoration timelines or crew deployment numbers by late Wednesday. The utility's outage map remained the primary source for tracking the scope of disruption as conditions moved through the area.

For context on scale, a separate storm system on June 20, 2025 knocked out power to nearly 51,000 BGE customers statewide, with the National Weather Service recording wind gusts up to 70 mph in some parts of Maryland. Wednesday's event, while significant for the communities affected, was geographically more concentrated, with outages clustered in a corridor running from Carroll County through Howard County and into the Baltimore metro area.
Residents across the affected jurisdictions were encouraged to check BGE's outage map for the latest restoration updates and to report any downed lines to BGE directly rather than attempting to approach them.
