A 24-year-old man was found dead and three other men were wounded after what Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley described as a shootout in the Mondawmin Mall area, police said. Officers discovered two heavily damaged vehicles that had crashed into each other in the mall parking lot near the TGI Friday’s restaurant as they responded to gunfire alerts.

The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, when multiple ShotSpotter alerts sent officers to the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue, according to field reporting from WBAL. At the parking lot scene officers found two people with gunshot wounds and later located additional victims across nearby blocks. The man who died was found in the 2500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue and was pronounced dead at that location. The three wounded men were reported as ages 23, 25 and 27; two of the injured were released from hospital and were being interviewed by police.

Commissioner Worley, who spoke at the scene, said investigators treated the incident as an exchange of gunfire. “It was a shootout where the two vehicles crashed together,” Worley said. He also summarized evidence recovery: “As officers canvassed the area, they located multiple firearms, as many as four weapons were recovered from the scene. It is an extensive crime scene.”

Investigators and on-site reporters described the crash vehicles as a blue pickup truck and a silver sedan, both heavily damaged and resting in the TGI Friday’s/mall parking lot. Security video obtained by WBAL shows moments after the shooting, including a man walking across Liberty Heights Avenue flagging down a police car and people visibly injured near storefronts. A witness told investigators, “The first one I heard was one time. The second one, pow, pow, pow, pow. People said that was a shooting.”

Police accounts differ on a few specifics that remain under review. Some reports place a non-fatal victim in the 3000 block of Tioga Parkway while others list the 3100 block of Tioga Parkway; sources also vary between an itemized recovery of three handguns and a rifle and the commissioner’s description of “as many as four weapons.” Field reporting noted crime-scene tape covering the corner of Liberty Heights and Tioga Parkway and that the taped area stretched for several blocks before detectives cleared it after evidence collection. “This entire corner had been covered and down the street had been covered with crime scene tape that was taken down just about an hour ago,” a WBAL field transcript states.

Baltimore Police said the investigation is ongoing, that officers are canvassing businesses and interviewing witnesses, and that anyone with information should contact police or Crime Stoppers. The field transcript preserved the Crime Stoppers string as, “That number, 18667. LOCKUP.” Detectives have not announced arrests or released the deceased’s name; follow-up by the department is expected as evidence is processed and medical examiner and hospital information is confirmed.
