Teen shot in leg after altercation in northwest Baltimore
A 17-year-old was shot in the leg near Reisterstown Road in Woodmere after an altercation, and detectives are asking for tips as he recovers in stable condition.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg in Woodmere after an altercation that investigators believe began in the 5400 block of Fairlawn Avenue, sending Baltimore police to the 5400 block of Reisterstown Road around 3:27 p.m. on April 16.
When officers arrived in northwest Baltimore, they found the teenager suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the leg. Police said he was taken to a hospital and was in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
The shooting unfolded on a busy stretch of Reisterstown Road, a major corridor that cuts through Woodmere and sits near the Roger Avenue Metro station. The Northwestern District headquarters is also on Reisterstown Road at 5271, placing the case squarely in a part of the city where afternoon foot traffic, transit riders and drivers move through the area every day. Major Kurt Yourkovik serves as the district commander for the Northwestern District.
Northwest District detectives are handling the case and have not identified a suspect. Police are asking anyone with information to call Northwest District detectives at 410-396-2466 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7Lockup. Baltimore police also say its Public Crime Map is based on General Offense Reports and is updated regularly, giving residents another way to track incidents as the investigation develops.
The shooting adds to a still-unsettled citywide violence picture. Baltimore ended 2025 with 133 homicides, 61 fewer than in 2024, but nonfatal shootings continued to affect neighborhoods across the city. WMAR 2 News’ April 2026 tracker said March 2026 had seven homicides and 20 non-fatal shootings citywide, a reminder that many gunfire incidents do not become homicide cases but still leave victims hospitalized and communities on edge.
