A stolen dirt bike set the stage for a pre-dawn gunfight on a residential East Baltimore block that left a teenager wounded and all three participants facing charges up to attempted murder.

The shooting happened at about 2:33 a.m. on March 19 in the 1200 block of Quantril Way, where Eastern District patrol officers responded to a report of gunfire. Officers found a 17-year-old boy with an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and medics took him to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators said 29-year-old Juan Amonte-Infante and 21-year-old Marvin Cabrera Ortiz, along with another man and a juvenile female, drove to the teen's home on the 1200 block of Quantril Way to recover a dirt bike they claimed the 17-year-old had stolen. Police said Ortiz and the 17-year-old began shooting at each other before the car sped off, after which the people in the car reported that they were the victims.

In connection with the shooting, detectives arrested three people, including the 17-year-old shooting victim. Police said detectives apprehended Juan Amonte-Infante, Marvin Cabrera Ortiz, and the 17-year-old on the same day. A juvenile female who was also in the car was released to her parents and not charged with any crime.

All three were taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and face charges ranging from conspiracy to commit murder to attempted murder.

The case illustrates an investigative outcome that is uncommon even by the standards of Baltimore's Eastern District: the person who arrived at the hospital as a gunshot victim left it as a criminal defendant. The shooting took place in the Armistead Gardens neighborhood, and upon arrival officers found the teen suffering from an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Specific charges against each of the three defendants have not been detailed publicly, and it remains unclear whether the teenager will be prosecuted as a juvenile or an adult. Eastern District detectives continue to investigate.
