A U-Haul driver was hospitalized Saturday after the rental truck crashed into a vacant Family Dollar store at 2020 Harford Road in East Baltimore, a morning collision that left the truck smashed against the side of the building.

The Baltimore City Fire Department arrived on scene just after 9:30 a.m. Firefighters found the truck pressed into the building's exterior. The driver was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived and was taken to the hospital for evaluation, officials said. No other injuries were reported at the scene.

The Family Dollar at 2020 Harford Road had been permanently closed sometime before Saturday's crash, according to Google Maps. The address is no longer listed on the Family Dollar corporate website, and the building was empty when the U-Haul struck it.

Authorities have not disclosed what caused the truck to hit the building. The crash remains under investigation.
