Scandinavian Relay Returns to Bamberg County, Boosts Local Charity
The Scandinavian Race will be held in Bamberg County on Saturday, January 24, 2026, marking its third consecutive year with a 40 mile relay that draws runners from across the region. The event channels proceeds to Three Crosses Outreach in Norway, South Carolina, and creates opportunities for visitor spending and community engagement during a traditionally quiet winter period.

Organizers confirmed that the Scandinavian Race will return to Bamberg County on Saturday, January 24, 2026, staging a 40 mile relay inspired by the landscapes and culture of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Now in its third year locally, the relay invites teams of between one and eight runners to spread legs of the course across the county, and proceeds will benefit Three Crosses Outreach in Norway, South Carolina, which supports local families with essential resources.
Race Director Laura Broussard emphasized the team format and registration timeline, saying "Teams consist of one to eight runners, so grab your running buddies and register by December 8, 2025. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for this unforgettable experience," Broussard said. Organizers also announced a regional partnership with the Dam to Dam Relay to form the Steadfast Relay Series, a collaboration intended to unite three regional races under a shared mission and raise the profile of relay running in the Southeast.
Bamberg County Council Chairwoman Sharon Hammond highlighted the community benefits, stating “We are thrilled to welcome the Scandinavian Race back to Bamberg County for the third year in a row. This event not only brings incredible energy and visitors into our community, but it also supports a meaningful cause. We are proud to be a part of something that uplifts our residents and showcases the very best of our county.” Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson added “Denmark is honored to once again be included in this remarkable relay. The camaraderie, the athletic spirit, and the dedication to giving back are truly inspiring. Events like this strengthen our communities and highlight what makes Bamberg County such a special place.”
For local businesses, the event represents a seasonal boost. Runners and supporters traveling from neighboring counties will increase demand for lodging, meals, and retail, while charitable proceeds for Three Crosses Outreach provide direct support to area families who rely on local social services. The Steadfast Relay Series partnership could also amplify repeat visitation over multiple events each year, helping sustain modest tourism spending outside peak summer months.
Residents interested in participating or supporting the race should contact race organizers for current registration availability and details, since the original registration window specified December 8, 2025. The event will offer both an athletic challenge and a community fundraising opportunity that organizers and local leaders expect will continue to strengthen Bamberg County into 2026 and beyond.
