Scandinavian Relay Returns to Bamberg County in January

Bamberg County will host the Scandinavian Race on Saturday, January 24, 2026, marking the event’s third consecutive year in the county. The endurance relay, inspired by the landscapes and culture of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, covers 40 miles and accepts teams of one to eight runners. Organizers say the course is designed to celebrate community strength while drawing visitors and participants from across the region.

Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit Three Crosses Outreach in Norway, SC, a local nonprofit that provides assistance to families in need. Race Director Laura Broussard urged area runners to form teams and register, saying, "Teams consist of one to eight runners, so grab your running buddies and register by December 8, 2025. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for this unforgettable experience." Residents seeking to register after that date should contact the race director to determine current availability.

The Scandinavian Relay has joined with the organizers of the Dam to Dam Relay to launch the Steadfast Relay Series, a coordination intended to unite three regional races under a common mission. County leaders and city officials framed the event as both a civic celebration and an economic opportunity. Bamberg County Council Chairwoman Sharon Hammond said, "We are thrilled to welcome the Scandinavian Race back to Bamberg County for the third year in a row. This event not only brings incredible energy and visitors into our community, but it also supports a meaningful cause. Beyond spectatorship, the race will require coordination among county and municipal offices for road use, public safety, and visitor services.
