Tractor Supply Groundbreaking Brings Jobs, Retail to Denmark
City and county leaders marked the December 15 groundbreaking for a new Tractor Supply store in Denmark, a project officials say will add local jobs, retail capacity, and services for farms and households. The store will occupy part of an eight acre site on Heritage Highway, a development that could strengthen local retail offerings and generate new sales tax revenue for Bamberg County.

Local officials, development partners and community members gathered December 15 for the groundbreaking of a Tractor Supply store at 18104 Heritage Highway in Denmark. The project will be built on an eight acre tract, with 4.5 acres planned for development and the remainder preserved to maintain trees and the natural landscape.
The Denmark store will include 20,000 square feet of indoor retail space plus an 18,000 square foot outdoor area for live goods, plants, straw, fencing and additional farm and home improvement items. Company and development officials said the store will create local jobs and expand access to agricultural and household supplies that many residents rely on.
“This location will be roughly the 2,450th store across the nation, and we’re gearing up to hit 2,500 stores,” Mahoney said. Tom Friedlob of 3D Development praised local leadership for moving the project forward. “We want to thank the city of Denmark for working so hard to bring Tractor Supply to the area,” Friedlob said. “We also appreciate Bamberg County for its partnership in moving this project forward. We’re excited to be a part of this community.”
Officials expect the store to hire roughly 30 to 35 employees and to operate seven days a week, numbers that municipal leaders say will matter in a rural county where new retail employment opportunities can reduce out commuting and keep more household spending local. The store is positioned as a one stop source for livestock supplies, gardening materials, pet care and small farm equipment, which may relieve residents from longer trips to regional centers.

Beyond immediate hiring, the project could boost monthly sales tax receipts and support adjacent commercial activity along Heritage Highway. County and city officials framed the development as part of a longer term effort to sustain Denmark as a service hub for surrounding rural areas.
Construction partners said they will work to minimize tree loss and retain open space on the parcel. With shovels in the ground and community support, leaders marked the start of construction on a development they expect to provide tangible retail and employment benefits to Bamberg County residents.
