Hawaiʻi Police Welcome Trina, 3-Year-Old Labrador, to Island-Wide K-9 Unit

Trina, a three-year-old Labrador Retriever, officially joined the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s island-wide K-9 unit on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, the department announced. The addition expands HPD’s canine resources and places Trina on duty across Big Island County under the department’s island-wide assignment plan.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department said Trina will be assigned island-wide responsibilities to assist in a range of police operations, giving officers a Labrador-configured capability for deployments across Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Waimea, Pāhoa and other Big Island communities.
