HI-PAL 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Set for North Kohala This March
Ten youth teams from across North Hawaiʻi tip off Saturday at Kapaʻau's Ikuo Hisaoka Gym in a free 3-on-3 tournament backed by the Hawaiʻi Police Department.

Ten youth basketball teams from five North Hawaiʻi communities will take the hardwood Saturday at Ikuo Hisaoka Gym in Kapaʻau for the HI-PAL 3-on-3 Invitational Basketball Tournament, with tip-off set for 8:30 a.m. and play running through 12:30 p.m.
The tournament, organized by the Hawaiʻi Police Activities League and the Hawaiʻi Police Department, draws squads representing Paʻauilo, Honokaʻa, Waimea, Waikōloa, and North Kohala. Teams will compete in a double-elimination format across five age divisions: 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U, with mixed-gender rosters throughout.
HI-PAL's stated purpose for events like this is to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community by promoting positive youth activities, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. Saturday's tournament puts that mission on the gym floor, giving kids from communities spread across the northern half of the island a shared competitive stage.
The gym sits at 54-382 Kamehameha Park Road in Kapaʻau. Admission is free, and the event is designated drug- and alcohol-free. Concessions, including food and drinks, will be available for purchase throughout the day, making it a full-morning outing for families.
