Massive Drug Seizure in Kaʻū, Police Recover Marijuana and Firearms
Hawaiʻi Island police executed a search warrant at a Hawaiian Oceanview Estates residence, recovering nearly 400 marijuana plants, large quantities of processed cannabis and four firearms. The scale of the seizure and the use of asset forfeiture underscore local public safety and law enforcement resource questions that matter to Big Island County residents.

Hawaiʻi Island police executed a search warrant on December 17, 2025 at a residence on the 92 8600 block of Jasmine Drive in the Hawaiian Oceanview Estates subdivision in Kaʻū, where officers found an extensive illegal drug operation. Investigators recovered approximately 397 marijuana plants, 364 pounds of processed marijuana, 19,814 grams of marijuana concentrate, 1.2 grams of cocaine and four firearms. Authorities also seized more than 14,600 dollars in United States currency and two vehicles, a white 2000 Ford Powerstroke F 350 and a Honda utility vehicle, for potential forfeiture. Law enforcement estimated the street value of the narcotics at about 1,437,630 dollars.
The Hawaiʻi Police Department Vice Division and Kaʻū Patrol led the operation and are continuing the investigation. Residents were asked to contact Officer Elijah Won at the Hawaiʻi Police Department Vice Division, to call the department’s non emergency line, or to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers. No arrests were announced at the time authorities released details of the seizure.
The volume and variety of drugs seized present immediate public safety concerns for the Kaʻū community. Large indoor or outdoor grows and concentrated product suggest distribution activity beyond personal use, which can increase traffic and criminal activity in rural neighborhoods. The recovery of multiple firearms raises additional safety and legal questions for investigators and prosecutors as they determine charges and pursue possible forfeiture of assets connected to illegal activity.
Beyond the immediate law enforcement response, the seizure highlights policy and institutional issues relevant to county voters and civic leaders. Decisions about local policing priorities, funding for specialized units such as vice squads, and oversight of asset forfeiture procedures will shape how similar cases are investigated and adjudicated in the future. Residents concerned about neighborhood safety or interested in influencing public safety policy should consider these outcomes when engaging with county decision makers and at the ballot box.
For now, the case remains under active investigation. Police officials ask anyone with information to provide tips through the channels named by the department to support ongoing enforcement and community safety efforts.
