2-year-old boy dies after being struck by vehicle in West Park

A 2-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle on the 100 block of Allen Road in West Park, and the driver stayed at the scene as investigators began sorting out how the crash unfolded.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded just after 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, to a crash with injuries in the neighborhood block. When rescuers arrived, they found the child hurt in the collision, and paramedics rushed him to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he was pronounced dead.

Local 10 placed the response at Southwest 56th Avenue and Allen Road, adding a more specific intersection for the crash scene. BSO has not released details on speed, distraction or other factors, and the circumstances of the impact remain under investigation.

West Park, incorporated on March 1, 2005, includes the neighborhoods of Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Miami Gardens and Utopia, according to the city. The fatal wreck also comes after another serious West Park crash on May 10, 2026, when one person died and six others, including a child, were injured in a three-car collision. Taken together, the recent crashes have put sharper attention on whether city and county officials need to move faster on basic protections in the corridor, including visibility, crossing design and traffic calming before another family is forced to absorb the same loss.
