Broward gas prices rise to $4.01 as South Florida climbs

Broward County gas averaged $4.01 a gallon Monday, a 4-cent jump from the previous week that lifted a routine 16-gallon fill-up to $64.16. Florida’s statewide average was $3.98, so Broward drivers were paying 3 cents more per gallon than the state mark as prices moved back above $4 across South Florida.

For a Broward commuter driving 40 miles round-trip five days a week in a car that gets 25 miles per gallon, the weekly fuel bill comes to about 8 gallons, or $32.08 at the county average. That is 32 cents more than last week and 24 cents more than if the same driver paid the statewide average. A delivery driver or rideshare worker using 20 gallons in a week would spend $80.20 at Broward’s price, 80 cents more than last week and 60 cents more than the Florida average.

South Florida’s price spread stayed wide. Palm Beach County averaged $4.13 a gallon, Broward $4.01 and Miami-Dade County $3.81. That means a 16-gallon tank cost about $67.84 in Palm Beach, $64.16 in Broward and $60.96 in Miami-Dade, a gap of nearly $7 from the region’s highest county to its lowest.

On July 27, a Shell station in Boca Raton had regular gas above $5 a gallon on Glades Road.

On July 13, Florida gas prices climbed after a breakdown in Iran peace efforts, and on March 30 they were at their highest level in four years as war-related disruption continued to hit the global oil supply chain. AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins: “Concerns about potential fuel supply disruptions have nudged oil prices higher.”
