BSO seeks help finding missing Oakland Park woman, 47

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for help finding Tameika Ponder, a 47-year-old Oakland Park woman who was last seen around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, June 29, in the 5100 block of Northeast Sixth Avenue. She was reported missing as of July 14, and investigators are still trying to determine where she went after that sighting.

Ponder is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, about 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was reportedly wearing a sleeveless beige romper with a leaf print when she disappeared.

Anyone who has seen Ponder or knows where she may be should contact Detective Leonard Charla with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Tips can also be called in through the department’s non-emergency number, 954-764-HELP, or 954-764-4357.

The search centers on Oakland Park, a city incorporated in 1929 in the heart of Broward County. The U.S. Census counted 44,229 residents there in 2020, and the city says its footprint is about 8.1 square miles with roughly 48,000 people living there now, a reminder of how many neighborhoods, businesses and side streets could have seen Ponder that morning.

Missing-person cases in Florida are also tracked through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse, the state’s central repository for missing-person information. That system connects local cases like Ponder’s to a broader statewide search network as detectives and the public work to narrow down her movements from the 5100 block of Northeast Sixth Avenue and the last confirmed time she was seen.
