Man shot in North Lauderdale Walmart parking lot, deputies investigate

A man was shot in the parking lot of the Walmart at 7900 W. McNab Road in North Lauderdale, turning a routine shopping stop into a crime scene and sending Broward deputies, North Lauderdale Fire Rescue and paramedics rushing to the store. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies received a 911 call about the shooting at about 12:28 p.m., and the gunfire broke out shortly before 12:30 p.m. outside the store, according to authorities. Witness Damon Anderson said, “When I came, there was police officers everywhere and I did hear a woman screaming and crying.”

A person was detained after the shooting, and WSVN reported that the detained person was a woman. No arrests had been announced in the initial reports, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation to determine what led up to the shooting and whether the people involved knew each other.

The scene unfolded at a busy retail center in a city that had 44,794 residents in the 2020 Census and an estimated population of 45,733 as of July 1, 2025. The Walmart Supercenter at 7900 W. McNab Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, is a store many residents use for everyday errands, and the shooting forced a major law-enforcement response in the middle of the day. Police have not publicly identified a motive, and the case remained under active investigation.
