Teen dies in I-95 crash near Hallandale Beach Boulevard

A 17-year-old Palm Coast driver died after losing control of a Subaru BRZ on southbound Interstate 95 near Hallandale Beach Boulevard around 1:20 a.m., a wreck that turned one of Broward County’s busiest overnight corridors into a fatal scene.

Florida Highway Patrol said the car veered to the right, struck a guardrail and ended up in a ditch before the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s name had not been released. The crash blocked the off-ramp and at least one other lane, putting a direct strain on overnight traffic and creating the kind of lane closure that can ripple into the morning commute while investigators work the roadway.

The timing puts the crash squarely in Florida’s “100 Deadly Days of Summer,” the stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says is the most dangerous time for teen drivers. Even a single-car loss-of-control wreck can shut a lane, force investigators to slow traffic and leave commuters facing delays long after the tow trucks clear the shoulder.
