Storm Lake boys golf tops Estherville 157-177 at BVU Lake Creek
Jayden Butler’s 37 and Trey Boettcher’s 39 powered Storm Lake to a 20-shot win at BVU Golf Course, a result that showed depth from top to bottom.

Storm Lake turned its round at BVU Golf Course at Lake Creek into a statement Tuesday, beating Estherville Lincoln Central 157-177 in a Lakes Conference dual that showed the Tornadoes could protect home turf and post a score that traveled through the whole lineup.
Jayden Butler led the way with a 37 and earned medalist honors, while Trey Boettcher stayed right behind him as runner-up medalist with a 39. Those two low rounds gave Storm Lake the kind of front-end scoring that usually decides dual meets, and the Tornadoes did not waste it.
Cam Boyd added a 40, Carson Taylor carded a 41, Bobby Boeckman finished with a 45 and Chase Mathistad shot 46. That spread kept Storm Lake’s total locked in at 157 and pushed the margin to 20 shots over Estherville, a gap that reflected more than one standout round. It showed a lineup that held together when the scoring moved from the top of the card to the bottom.

The setting mattered, too. Playing at BVU Golf Course at Lake Creek gave Storm Lake a local comfort level, and the Tornadoes used it well by keeping numbers low enough to control the match from start to finish. Butler’s 37 and Boettcher’s 39 were the sharp end of the performance, but the 40, 41, 45 and 46 behind them were what turned a strong outing into a meaningful conference result.
The junior varsity also gave the program another sign of depth. Estherville won that side 197-204, but Storm Lake’s Everett Grover claimed medalist honors with a 46. Even in a loss, the JV round showed the Tornadoes have players capable of stepping into scoring roles as the season moves through the spring stretch of conference competition.

Taken together, the varsity and JV results pointed to a Storm Lake group that is not just showing up for Lakes Conference matches. At BVU Golf Course, the Tornadoes produced a top-to-bottom scorecard sturdy enough to win by 20 and leave a stronger case that this team can matter in the league race.
