Storm Lake Man Arrested on Felony Drug Warrant

Storm Lake Police located and arrested 50-year-old Jose Sevilla Perez Jr. around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the 500 block of Russell Street and transported him to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was booked on a $5,000 bond. Officers served a Buena Vista County felony drug warrant at the scene and took Sevilla Perez into custody without incident.

Sevilla Perez was wanted on a warrant charging third-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. "Sevilla Perez was wanted on a Buena Vista County warrant for third offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony," the police account states, and the warrant was linked to an earlier arrest. The account says, "The warrant stemmed from a Nov. 6, 2025 arrest, when Sevilla Perez was taken into custody on an unrelated incident and allegedly found with a small amount of methamphetamine."

Officers served the warrant and completed booking procedures at the Buena Vista County Jail following the Jan. 30 arrest. "Authorities report Sevilla Perez was taken into custody Friday without incident. He was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was booked on a $5,000 bond," the report notes; the initial account does not list a court date for Sevilla Perez.

The arrest in the 500 block of Russell Street comes amid a series of separate drug-related enforcement actions in Storm Lake in recent months. At 1800 East Milwaukee Avenue, Apartment 104, a search after officers detected the odor of marijuana turned up methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and 34-year-old Trevor Namanny was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance - 3rd offense, a class D felony, plus possession of drug paraphernalia. A traffic stop in the 1300 block of Erie Street at about 10:45 a.m. on a Sunday resulted in officers finding four ounces of marijuana in a backpack and charging 20-year-old Gilo Gilo with possession with intent to deliver and a drug tax stamp violation; Gilo was reported held on a $10,000 bond with a December 7 court date. A 10:30 a.m. traffic stop in the 1600 block of North Lake Avenue produced charges against 22-year-old Hanson Schumacher of Pomeroy and 20-year-old passenger Anthony Esquivel for possession and related counts, and a separate early-morning stop led to a third-offense OWI charge for 28-year-old Rafael Herta Garcia of Storm Lake.

Storm Lake Police have not provided additional details about how officers located Sevilla Perez on Russell Street or whether further charges beyond the Buena Vista County warrant are pending. Sevilla Perez remains booked at the Buena Vista County Jail on the reported $5,000 bond.
