Storm Lake Man Faces Felony Child Sex Abuse Charges, Held on $50,000 Bond
Delvin Geovanny Zeledon Gonzalez, 31, faces five felony counts including second-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 and is held on a $50,000 bond.
Delvin Geovanny Zeledon Gonzalez, a 31-year-old Storm Lake resident, was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on five felony counts, including second-degree sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12, following the service of an arrest warrant on March 26.
The charges filed through the Buena Vista County Attorney's Office include sexual abuse in the second degree, lascivious acts with a child, incest, indecent contact with a child, and child endangerment. A no-contact order was put in place March 25, one day before the warrant was executed.
According to the affidavit, the alleged offenses took place between January 6 and February 6 at a residence in the 6000 block of 157th Avenue. Law enforcement alleges Zeledon Gonzalez engaged in repeated inappropriate physical contact with a child under 12 during early morning hours at that location.
Zeledon Gonzalez is being held on a $50,000 bond with attorney Nicholas Sarcone listed as his legal counsel. He waived his preliminary hearing, a procedural step that typically accelerates the case toward formal indictment or trial information. The waiver carries no implication of guilt and is a tactical decision commonly made in consultation with counsel. With the hearing waived, the next significant milestone will be the filing of a trial information or grand jury indictment by the county attorney's office.
Second-degree sexual abuse in Iowa is a Class B felony, one of the most serious classifications under state law, and carries a mandatory prison term upon conviction. The incest charge, combined with the remaining counts, compounds the legal exposure Zeledon Gonzalez faces if the case proceeds to conviction.
Investigations of this nature in Iowa typically involve coordination between local police, the Buena Vista County Attorney's Office, and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, which manages forensic interviews, evidence collection, and safety planning when an alleged victim is a minor. Court filings in the case are public record and available through the Buena Vista County Clerk of Court.
Anyone in Buena Vista County who suspects child abuse can report it to the Iowa Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-362-2178, which is staffed 24 hours a day. Victim advocacy and counseling referrals are available through the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services at 1-855-889-7985.
