Free registration opened for Storm Lake’s Big Parade, giving businesses, nonprofits, churches, clubs and political candidates a place in front of the July 4 crowd that organizers say tops 10,000 spectators. The parade is set for 10:30 a.m. on July 4, 2026, when entries will roll down Lakeshore Drive as part of the Star Spangled Spectacular.

The deadline to enter is June 22. Organizers are accepting online registrations, and paper forms can be picked up at Storm Lake United, 119 W. Sixth St., or downloaded from the event website. Questions can be sent to the parade contact email listed by organizers, thebigparadesl@gmail.com.

The Big Parade remains one of Storm Lake’s most visible summer promotions, especially during the holiday weekend when visitors fill town for food, shopping and fireworks. For local groups, the route offers a rare chance to put a name, message or brand directly in front of the region’s biggest Independence Day audience without an entry fee.

The 2026 Star Spangled Spectacular is built around the theme “Built on Freedom. Bound by Community.” Tyler and Deidre Aube are serving as commodores, and the city has described the festival as Storm Lake’s “grand-daddy” of celebrations. The two-day event is scheduled for July 3 and 4 and is expected to draw more than 10,000 visitors again.

The parade is only one piece of a larger holiday lineup. City events listings say the festival includes concerts, a patriotic ceremony, Artists’ Alley, street performers, a classic car cruise and food vendors. Friday, July 3, will include the car cruise, kiddie parade and music in the bandshell. Saturday, July 4, begins with the Ride-Run around the lake before the Big Parade, then moves into food, music and fireworks.

Organizers also are recruiting additional volunteers for Sunset Park on Friday night and for parade, parking and other duties on Saturday. Beyond parade entries, registration is open for art vendors, food vendors, nonprofits, for-profits and food trucks, broadening the economic reach of the celebration across downtown Storm Lake and the lakefront.

Past parade materials have welcomed floats, convertibles, tractors, walkers, dancers and bands, and some years have offered registration in English and Spanish. That broad mix has long helped make the Big Parade one of the largest processions in Iowa and a centerpiece of Storm Lake’s busiest summer weekend.
