A Grand Biltmore Christmas wraps in Asheville; Andie MacDowell, Jonathan Frakes added
Filming for Hallmark’s A Grand Biltmore Christmas wrapped in Asheville in early February, scheduled to conclude Feb. 2, with Andie MacDowell added late as Aunt Maysilee and Jonathan Frakes joining the cast.

“That’s a wrap! Hallmark Channel's new holiday original, ‘A Grand Biltmore Christmas,’ has ended production at Biltmore Estate and across Asheville,” the on-set report reads, after principal photography concluded in early February with a scheduled wrap date of Feb. 2. Production shot on location at the Biltmore Estate and at sites across Asheville as cast and crew finished exterior and interior scenes for the sequel to 2023’s A Biltmore Christmas.
Andie MacDowell was a late, surprise addition to the cast and “she plays Aunt Maysilee,” a role described as “a traditional, somewhat meddling character.” The casting came just as production was completing local shooting in late January and early February, according to set reporting and production notices filed during the final week of filming. Jonathan Frakes was also listed among late additions, with production materials calling out both MacDowell and Frakes as high-profile new cast members.
Lead and returning performers named in production coverage include Rachel Boston and Niall Matter, with Holland Roden specifically identified as playing Elizabeth and Niall Matter as Michael. The film’s narrative framework moves between historic and modern timelines: Elizabeth and Michael meet as teens on Christmas Eve in 1895, the year the Biltmore House first opened, and the storyline then jumps between 1915 and the present day. That premise folds in fantastical elements, with the script placing “mystery and magic” and possible time travel “at the tip of a mystical hourglass,” a plot detail provided in the production synopsis released alongside casting notices.
Local production design credits include Aubrey Vanderbilt Cecil Baliles, described as the great-great-granddaughter of George and Edith Vanderbilt and the founder of Avermore Jewelry, who custom-designed the pieces worn in the film. Set visits confirmed that viewers should expect more screen time inside the Biltmore House than in the prior film, and costume and jewelry choices were emphasized in on-site coverage.
Cast members spent downtime sampling Asheville restaurants while on location. Holland Roden named Cúrate, Biscuit Head, Mother and Haywood Common among places she enjoyed and said, “There's just so many fun places.” Roden also listed additional eateries she planned to try while in town, including Character Study, Easy Tiger, Crow & Quill and Huli Sue's BBQ & Grill.
Programming information contains one specific claim and one broader phrasing: production notices state the movie “will premiere during Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas programming for 2026,” while local set coverage described the premiere as scheduled “later this year.” Outstanding verification remains: Hallmark’s official premiere date and full cast credits, the exact confirmation date for MacDowell’s casting announcement, the specific role for Jonathan Frakes, and the cameo details credited to Chase Pickering. Those production and scheduling items are essential to finalize reporting on the film’s local economic footprint and official release plans.
