A concert rooted in Tropical Storm Helene recovery closed the weekend with music and material aid for Buncombe County residents. Four bands associated with the Caverns of Gold benefit album, PINKEYE, Lower Peaks, Why Why? and John Kirby Jr & the New Seniors, played The Orange Peel’s PULP stage in a show that doubled as a warm clothing drive in partnership with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM).

Organizers framed the evening as both a celebration of Western North Carolina’s music scene and a practical response to winter needs. "Each band brings its own energy and vision, from fierce punk urgency to indie experimentation and heartfelt songwriting," the organizers wrote in a press release. Attendees were invited to bring coats, jackets, hats, gloves, scarves and other warm clothing for distribution to community members in need.

The Caverns of Gold project, which originally brought together nearly 280 artists from around the globe as part of Tropical Storm Helene recovery efforts, helped draw international attention to the region’s needs and the creativity of its musicians. The compilation remains available on Bandcamp for $10, continuing to provide a fundraising channel beyond live events.

Beyond the music, the concert highlighted immediate public health concerns for people experiencing housing insecurity or limited heating this winter. Access to proper cold-weather clothing reduces risks such as hypothermia and frostbite and lessens strain on emergency services during acute cold spells. By partnering with ABCCM, event organizers aimed to place donated clothing into an existing local network that serves people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

For local residents, the benefit underscored how arts organizations, venues and faith-based relief partners can collaborate to meet basic needs while keeping community life vibrant. Musicians and fans who contributed both ticket revenue and physical items helped reinforce a community safety net at a time of heightened need following recent storms and seasonal cold.

The Caverns of Gold Showcase Benefit provided an example of grassroots recovery in action: blending fundraising, cultural visibility and direct service. While the show has concluded, the compilation’s continued availability and ABCCM’s intake efforts mean residents who missed the concert can still support ongoing relief and donation channels in Buncombe County.
