Two People Suffer Minor Injuries in Asheville Courtney Street Stabbing
Two people who knew each other were treated for cuts after a stabbing on Courtney Street around 11:34 a.m. on Feb. 16, Asheville police said.

Two Asheville neighbors were treated at the scene after a reported stabbing on Courtney Street on Monday morning, Asheville Police Department public information officer Rick Rice said. APD’s initial dispatch timeline puts the call at about 11:34 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, and officers found two people with minor cuts.
Rice told investigators that the two people involved knew one another and that one person was holding the knife. Medical aid was rendered at the scene; APD said one person was cut on the hand and the other was cut on the wrist. The department has not released names or ages in its initial account.
Online reaction to the Courtney Street incident surfaced quickly on social media. Commenters using full names in a public thread described the event with a mix of concern and derision; Christopher Robert Moe wrote, "Minor stabbing…..nothing to worry about," Jason Dixon asked, "HOMELESS,DRUNK OR ADDICT?," and Leslie Hanson asked, "Any names yet." Those posts reflect neighborhood unease even as APD describes the injuries as minor.
City police say the Courtney Street matter remains under investigation. "The incident is under investigation," Rice said; investigators are reviewing the dispatch timeline and officers' reports from the scene to determine whether charges or further action are warranted.
Separately, reports from other recent police calls in Asheville describe a different, more serious stabbing that began with a 3:40 a.m. call and escalated into a five-hour standoff that ended with arrests. That account lists one person in critical condition, says a suspect barricaded inside an apartment surrendered after negotiations, and names two people arrested - Donald Eugene Lory Jr., 54, and Julia Crystal Cavaliere, 41 - with charges that include assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflict serious injury for Lory and resist, delay and obstruction for Cavaliere. APD has not confirmed whether the early-morning standoff and the Courtney Street incident on Feb. 16 are connected.
Asheville police did not provide details about weapon recovery, witness interviews, or whether either person at the Courtney Street scene was transported to a hospital after treatment at the scene. Journalists and neighbors seeking updates can check for further statements from APD and the department’s public information officer, Rick Rice, as investigators complete their review of files and dispatch logs from Feb. 16.
