Allen ISD trustees approved a 2% salary-midpoint increase for teachers and staff, a move that will lift starting teacher pay to $62,304 and take effect in the 2026-27 school year. The decision gives district leaders one of the final pieces they needed as they finish next year’s budget and try to keep classrooms staffed in a tight North Texas labor market.

The vote came during a May 11 workshop meeting at the Allen ISD Professional Learning and Auxiliary Services building at 610 E. Bethany Dr. in Allen. The raise is part of a broader compensation and benefits package that includes pay structures, stipends and supplements, substitute pay and benefits. Allen ISD Human Resources says its mission is to prioritize recruitment and retention of quality employees, and that focus framed the board’s approval.

At the district’s top salary band, which covers teachers with 30 or more years of experience, pay will rise from $78,290 to $78,994. Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Johnna Walker said the district wanted a plan that stayed competitive and sustainable while remaining aligned with district policy. She also said Allen needed to remain in line with nearby districts to attract and keep strong teachers while accounting for inflation’s effect on employees’ cost of living.

Board secretary John Holley described the change as fiscally responsible and said it keeps Allen in the same neighborhood as surrounding districts on compensation. That matters in a district where even a modest percentage increase can influence whether teachers, paraprofessionals and other staff decide to stay through another school year or look elsewhere for higher pay and lower stress.

The compensation vote also fits into Allen ISD’s regular board calendar. Workshop meetings are usually held on the first Monday of the month, while regular meetings follow on the third Monday, both at the Bethany Drive facility. District finance materials say the budget process emphasizes transparency, efficiency and advocacy, and the finance department manages annual budgets, payroll and legislative research.

Allen ISD also has already staged other staffing-related pieces for the coming school year. The district partnered with ESS to manage substitute needs for 2025-26, and its employee benefits materials show a Sept. 1, 2025 effective date for current and new benefit elections. In that context, the 2% raise signals a district trying to steady pay, control costs and protect campus stability heading into the next budget cycle.
