On December 4, 2025, the Wylie Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the site plan for a new career and technical education building at Collin Colleges Wylie campus. The facility will sit on about 7.28 acres at 391 Country Club Road and is designed to provide hands on workforce training in programs such as welding, HVAC, veterinary technology and other applied fields.

The building is planned as a 66,309 square foot facility and will be constructed in two phases. Phase one will include the main structure and initial parking, and the second phase will add the remaining parking required for the project. The approved plan requires 196 parking spaces to be in place before the facility opens, a condition officials said is necessary to address campus access and neighborhood impacts.

Collin College opened its Wylie campus in 2020 and enrollment has grown since then. College leaders have cited increasing demand for career focused programs as a primary reason for the expansion. For local residents the new center represents both an expanded pathway into skilled trades and a potential economic boost for employers seeking trained technicians and veterinary staff within the region.

Beyond job training, the curriculum areas proposed carry public health and community implications. HVAC training contributes to workforce capacity for managing indoor air quality in schools and businesses. Veterinary technology supports animal health and services that rural and suburban families rely on. Welding and other trade skills feed manufacturing and construction sectors that are central to Collin Countys economic resilience.

The project also raises equity considerations. Expanded access to affordable, hands on training can create entry points for students who may not pursue four year degrees and can help communities of color and lower income residents secure family sustaining wages. The phased construction and parking requirements will be watched closely by neighbors and city planners as the project moves toward construction.

As Collin College moves forward with development, the new Wylie facility aims to align college capacity with regional workforce needs and growing student demand, while presenting local leaders with decisions about access, infrastructure and community impact.
