Frisco police have arrested Lisa Honrud in the 2002 killing of her husband, Frank Weiss, a case that had sat open for 24 years and long haunted the family of the Plano resident found dead near Lake Lewisville in Frisco city limits.

Authorities said Honrud, 55, was taken into custody at her Waxahachie home at about 7:47 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, in coordination with the Waxahachie Police Department. She was arrested on a murder warrant tied to Frisco call-for-service number 02026961, later identified in the department’s release as 2026-00000003.

Frisco police said the case moved forward after detectives used advancements in investigative techniques, modern technology and new information from a key witness to obtain the warrant. Investigators did not release the specific evidence that connected Honrud to Weiss’s killing, leaving unresolved the exact step that turned a cold file into an active arrest after more than two decades.

Weiss was found dead in 2002 near Lake Lewisville inside the City of Frisco. Police identified him as a Plano resident and said Honrud was married to him at the time of the killing. The case has remained one of Frisco’s long-running violent-crime investigations, with family and friends left without answers for years.

Chief David Shilson later called the arrest an important step toward justice for the Weiss family after 24 years of waiting. For residents across Collin County, the arrest is a reminder that older homicide cases can still produce results when new testing, new witness cooperation or a fresh review of evidence gives detectives a way back in.

Frisco police are still asking for more information from anyone who may know something about the case. Tips can be called in to investigators at (972) 292-6010. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by texting FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411, or through the Frisco PD app.

The arrest links Frisco, Plano and Waxahachie in a case that began with a death near Lake Lewisville and ended, at least for now, with one of North Texas’ longest-running murder investigations finally reaching an arrest.
