McKinney North Jazz Ensemble Named Finalist for Essentially Ellington Festival

McKinney North High School’s Jazz Ensemble 1 earned a finalist spot in the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, McKinney ISD announced March 3, 2026, calling the invitation the highest level of national achievement for the district and saying the group was one of only 20 ensembles selected and one of only three chosen from Texas. The district release says the North Jazz Band will travel to New York City to take part in educational clinics and workshops, receive feedback from members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and perform alongside top high school jazz ensembles nationwide.
