McKinney shifts holiday trash collection, residents should adjust schedules

The City of McKinney notified residents on Dec. 15, 2025 that trash and recycling collection schedules will change for the upcoming holidays. For the week of Christmas, there will be no pickup on Thursday, Dec. 25. All residential trash and recycling collection for that week will move one day, with Thursday routes collected on Friday and Friday routes collected on Saturday. For the New Year week, there will be no pickup on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, and pickups will again slide one day, with Thursday routes moved to Friday and Friday routes moved to Saturday.

City officials told residents to place carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. The notice also listed holiday office closures for city offices on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, and reminded residents to secure carts and any loose items to avoid scattering during collection or in windy conditions. The city advised that commercial and special collections may have separate instructions, and that additional details are available on the municipal website.
