Medical City McKinney Expansion Marks Major Capacity Increase
Medical City McKinney held a topping out ceremony on November 13 to mark progress on a $142 million vertical expansion that will add two stories to the east tower and 105,600 square feet of new space. The project will increase bed capacity and add surgical and maternal services, steps that matter to Collin County residents as the region grows.

Medical City McKinney celebrated a construction milestone on November 13, marking the rising structure of a $142 million expansion that will add two stories to the hospital east tower and 105,600 square feet of new facilities. The multi phase project began in August and remains scheduled to continue through 2028 as part of a broader campus investment.
The expansion increases the hospital bed count by 46, bringing the total to 357 beds per reporting, and creates new clinical space designed to meet rising patient demand in Collin County. Planned additions include four new operating rooms, a new post anesthesia care unit, expanded day surgery space, two C section suites and six labor and delivery suites. Intensive care and step down capacity will be expanded along with additional medical surgical units. Women services will receive upgraded labor C section and postpartum suites that match recent designs used elsewhere in the hospital system.
Hospital leadership and representatives from JE Dunn Construction marked the topping out and praised construction crews while signaling the project will increase the hospital capacity to serve the growing population in Collin County. The vertical expansion is one phase of a larger program that also includes renovations and reworked clinical areas elsewhere on campus.
For local residents the project means more options for surgical care and childbirth closer to home, and greater hospital capacity during periods of high demand. The added operating rooms and post anesthesia care capacity should allow the hospital to perform more procedures on site, while the expanded labor and delivery suites aim to reduce the need to travel outside the county for maternal care. The long timeline through 2028 also means ongoing construction activity and a phased transition as new spaces are completed and staffed.
As construction continues, the hospital will move from structural milestones to interior build out and clinical commissioning, with the goal of integrating new services into day to day care for Collin County families.
