Melissa Police Investigating Unidentified Person Found Dead Near Fannin Road

A body was discovered in a grassy area near the sidewalk along Fannin Road in Melissa just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, setting off a death investigation that has left the person's identity unknown more than 24 hours later.

Officers from the Melissa Police Department were dispatched at approximately 5:07 a.m. on April 7 following a report of an unresponsive person near the intersection of Fannin Road and Fisherman Trail. Responding officers confirmed the individual was deceased on scene. The department has not released the person's name, citing the need to notify next of kin before any public identification.

The Collin County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct forensic review and determine the official cause and manner of death. Melissa police detectives are leading the investigation with coordination from the medical examiner's office on identification efforts.

Police described the incident as appearing isolated and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. The early-morning discovery along a stretch of Fannin Road that local commuters travel regularly triggered traffic advisories for the corridor between Fisherman Trail and the Buc-ee's Boulevard interchange, where officers managed the scene and recovery operations throughout the morning.

The Melissa Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is asking anyone with relevant information to come forward. Witnesses, or residents with dash-cam or doorbell camera footage from the area near Fannin Road and Fisherman Trail, are asked to call investigators at 972-838-2033. The department said updates will follow as the investigation progresses and cause-of-death and identification determinations are made.
