Plano officials have outlined a series of infrastructure projects that will shape traffic patterns and local services through 2027, with several high-impact efforts already underway. The North Texas Municipal Water District is replacing an aging 9,100-foot pipeline along Custer Road, with more than a third of the line installed and all northbound lanes between Westridge Drive and Grandview Drive closed Jan. 5-26. That $18 million replacement is scheduled to run through October 2026 and is driving temporary traffic restrictions in north Plano.

City Council action and contractor awards are moving other work into construction. The council approved a $3.31 million contract on Oct. 27 for a Southwest Plano residential street repair program that will replace concrete streets, alleys, sidewalks and ramps; construction was expected to begin in early January. Nearby arterial and overlay work includes Parker Road, where an asphalt overlay is substantially complete as of Dec. 4 with minor items remaining on a project costing $4.37 million and stretching through winter 2026.

Longer-term rehabilitation and capacity projects aim to accommodate growth and reduce service disruptions. A $16.1 million Plano Parkway sewer improvement project intended to increase sewer capacity for current and future development will require several lane closures as construction runs from July 2025 into spring 2027. Major pavement and waterline work on 15th Street from Municipal Avenue to Jupiter Road is under construction with a $6.939 million budget and a timeline through March 2027. Other arterial overlays and overlays scheduled in 2025 and 2026 include McDermott Road ($900,000), Coit Road ($1.611 million) and an overlay on Custer Road between Hedgcoxe Road and Spring Creek Parkway ($1.63 million).

Some projects are wrapping up: the Communications Parkway asphalt overlay, a $1.53 million job that began in January 2025, expected to conclude in December, and Park Boulevard water rehabilitation, where water line construction finished in December and pavement and cleanup are scheduled through the end of January.

For residents and commuters the immediate effects are predictable: lane closures, detours and intermittent access changes on key arterials and neighborhood streets. The projects are funded across multiple municipal and regional agencies and represent targeted investments in water reliability, sewer capacity and pavement upkeep intended to support ongoing development in Collin County. The city notes the list is not exhaustive; residents should expect evolving schedules and plan travel accordingly as crews advance work through 2026 and into 2027.
