Prosper Opens $13.8 Million Fire Station 4 to Boost Emergency Coverage
Prosper's new Fire Station 4 opens on the east side with nine firefighters around the clock, as a town growing 9-13% annually gets long-awaited coverage near Custer Road.

Prosper's east side has been adding subdivisions faster than fire coverage could keep pace, with the town's population growing by double digits annually and existing stations stretched across an ever-wider service area. Fire Station 4, which opened this month at 38980 E. Prosper Trail just west of Custer Road, is Prosper Fire Rescue's direct answer to that gap.
The 12,212-square-foot facility cost $13.8 million, funded through the town's voter-approved 2020 bond program, and opens with nine personnel assigned around the clock. The building includes two pull-through apparatus bays, an additional half-bay for fire apparatus, sleeping quarters for up to eight firefighters, a captain's office, conference room, and workout space.
"Fire Station 4 strengthens our ability to be where our residents need us, when they need us," Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame said. "This station will allow the department to improve response times, expand coverage on our east side, and ensure our firefighters are ready to answer the call 24/7."
Prosper currently has roughly 46,000 residents and is projected to surpass 70,000 at full buildout over the next two decades, according to the Prosper Economic Development Corporation. That trajectory, running at 9% to 13% annual growth in recent years, made the east-side station a priority: the closer a crew can be staged to fast-developing corridors near Custer Road, the faster it can reach a cardiac call or structure fire where minutes determine outcomes.
Mayor David Bristol tied the investment to a concrete expectation. "This new station will expedite emergency services in this part of the community and will potentially save lives as its services go online," Bristol said.
Station 4 is not the last in Prosper's long-range plan. Blasingame said a fifth and final station is anticipated on the northwest side of town, with construction possible in roughly five years depending on development pace in that corridor. The department also plans to layer ambulance services into Station 4 by 2028, adding six more personnel to the east side and giving the location a full emergency medical services capability.
A public dedication and open house is scheduled for 3 p.m. on April 28 at the station, where town officials will walk the community through coverage areas and response protocols.
