Samsung lays off about 100 workers in Plano amid U.S. cuts

Samsung cut about 100 workers at its Plano office as part of 739 U.S. layoffs that hit phone, TV and home-appliance jobs. The reductions land in Collin County just as Samsung Electronics America is shifting its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano.

The company confirmed in early June 2026 that the headquarters would move to Plano, and about 1,000 employees were expected to relocate to Texas by the end of 2026. Samsung offered relocations to some employees, but the Plano cuts show the move is not just a head-count transfer. It is also a reset of where Samsung keeps its U.S. consumer-electronics work.

Plano is home to Samsung’s consumer electronics business, the part of the company tied to phones, televisions and home appliances. The Dallas Morning News reported that the business has struggled compared with Samsung’s AI chips manufacturing, a gap that helps explain why the U.S. reductions landed most heavily in consumer-facing divisions while Samsung’s chip business continued to post stronger results.

The Plano layoffs also fit into a wider restructuring beyond North Texas. Samsung SDS America separately notified state authorities that it may eliminate 179 positions at its Ridgefield Park, New Jersey office. The Englewood Cliffs headquarters campus opened only in September 2025, making Samsung’s rapid relocation and job cuts notable for workers in both New Jersey and Texas.
