CompleteCare offers free sports physicals for Vineland High students

Free sports physicals at Vineland High School gave student-athletes one less obstacle before summer workouts and fall tryouts, with walk-ins accepted between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the CompleteCare Health Center in the Tanner Building.

The service mattered in a district that says it serves more than 10,000 students across 14 schools and a high school program with more than 20 athletic offerings. For families racing to get clearance forms done before practices begin, a same-day exam can be the difference between showing up on time and sitting out.

CompleteCare Health Network said its fully equipped Mobile Medical Unit was designed to bring preventive screenings and health education directly into neighborhoods, workplaces and community events, a model meant to reduce barriers to care. At Vineland High School, that approach put physical exams close to where students already spend their days, instead of forcing families to search for an appointment elsewhere in Cumberland County.

The health center at the Tanner Building was staffed by a nurse practitioner and medical assistant and offered primary care, sports physicals, sick visits and other services during school hours. Vineland school materials said students should bring an insurance card and updated vaccine records. Students younger than 14 had to be accompanied by an adult, while students 14 and older needed a completed and signed CompleteCare application to be seen without a parent present.

CompleteCare said it operates 19 patient-centered locations and is one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers in New Jersey, with sites in Vineland, Bridgeton and Millville. The Vineland school-based presence continued even after CompleteCare said medical services at its former Hallways to Health site were permanently closed on June 30, 2025 and relocated to the Vineland Health Campus at 785 Sherman Ave.

For students trying to stay eligible for summer conditioning and fall competition, the free physicals offered a direct shortcut around the two biggest barriers: cost and delays. In a city where athletics reach across Vineland Senior High School and its many teams, that kind of access can keep a season from being missed before it even starts.
