A $20 sports physical at Tree City Medical Partners gave Decatur County student athletes a low-cost way to clear one more hurdle before summer practices and fall seasons.

Decatur County Memorial Hospital listed the clinic for Tuesday, May 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. after also offering an earlier date on Wednesday, May 6. The hospital described the service as annual discounted sports physicals for area student athletes, a seasonal expense that can matter for families trying to keep school-athletics costs manageable.

The timing also lined up with Indiana High School Athletic Association requirements. Under IHSAA Rule 3-10, student athletes must have a physical examination between April 1 and the first practice for interschool athletic participation, and the current IHSAA pre-participation physical evaluation form must be used for clearance. For students who had not already completed that paperwork, the May clinic offered a way to stay eligible without adding much to the family budget.

Tree City Medical Partners hosted the physicals, continuing a recurring service that DCMH has used in previous years. The hospital also listed similar student-athlete clinics in 2025, including dates on May 20 and May 22, showing that the spring physicals have become part of the local athletic calendar for Decatur County families.

DCMH’s role in local sports goes beyond clinic nights. The hospital says its EMS crews are present at varsity football games at the three area high schools, tying the medical system directly to the sidelines as well as to preseason paperwork. That broader sports medicine presence means the hospital is involved from physical clearance through game-night coverage, an important piece of support for student athletes and the adults who rely on them to be ready when practices start.
