Decatur County Schools announce Aug. 3 first day for 2026-27 year

Decatur County Schools said July 18 that classes for the 2026-27 school year will begin Monday, Aug. 3, a date that now sets the countdown for families across Decaturville, Parsons, Scotts Hill and Bath Springs. The district’s notice gives parents and students a clear marker for transportation plans, school supplies, sports schedules and before- and after-school arrangements.

The announcement matters because the final weeks of July are when back-to-school details tend to pile up fast. With a district-wide start date now posted, families can line up child care, confirm morning routines, and make sure younger students and those moving to new campuses are ready for orientation, health forms and first-day paperwork. For many households, that also means checking whether clothing, notebooks, backpacks and other supplies are on hand before the rush hits.

Decatur County Schools’ public website lists the district office at 59 West Main Street, P.O. Box 369, Decaturville, TN 38329, and identifies Melinda J. Thompson as director of schools. The district includes Parsons Elementary School, Decatur County Middle School, Riverside High School and The Learning Center, also known as Decatur County Virtual Academy. That campus lineup makes the Aug. 3 start date relevant across every grade level, from elementary classrooms to high school schedules.

The district has also been using its live-feed and news pages to push updates to families, and a July 16 board meeting agenda appeared there as mid-month administrative work continued ahead of opening day.
