Dove Creek seeks letters of interest for mayor, trustee openings

The Town of Dove Creek is accepting letters of interest for one mayor position with a four-year term, one trustee position with a four-year term and two trustee positions with two-year terms. Qualified applicants must submit letters to Town Hall at 314 W. Hwy. 491 in Dove Creek by 4:30 p.m. on March 24.

Those openings matter because the mayor and trustees help steer the decisions residents feel most directly: town operations, services and policy. In a small county seat like Dove Creek, the board’s work reaches into the basics of daily life, including streets, water, fire protection and town maintenance, while also shaping the budget and local rules that govern how the town runs.

The notice appears on the Town of Dove Creek’s official website under the title “Open Elected Positions - Letters of Interest Accepted,” and the town’s website continues to carry other time-sensitive notices, including one that Town Hall is closed until further notice. A local Facebook post from The Pinto Bean in Dove Creek circulated the same public notice on Sept. 12, 2023, showing that the opening is moving through the community’s usual channels for official information.

The vacancy process also fits a familiar Colorado pattern. Municipal openings in towns such as Yampa, Buena Vista and Kremmling have also been handled through letters of interest or appointment, a reminder that small-town boards often depend on residents willing to step in when seats open between elections. In Dove Creek, the mayor and trustees do more than sit through meetings. They help guide local government alongside staff, including the town manager role that provides professional guidance, leadership and advice to the Board of Trustees.
