On December 27, 2025, Timber Trail Elementary hosted Denver Broncos tight end Evan Engram and his wife Emily for a holiday classroom visit that brought the professional athlete into the significant support needs classroom for an afternoon of cookie and graham cracker house decorating. The appearance marked the first school visit tied to the mission of the Evan Engram Foundation, which launched last year and aims to empower youth and support individuals with disabilities.

Students spent the visit making frosting, decorating treats, posing for photos, and having jerseys and helmets signed. Three Unified Sports students from Buffalo Ridge Elementary joined the session. After the initial excitement of meeting a professional football player, Engram took time to connect individually with students, play rock paper scissors to decide who would ask the next question, and field whimsical inquiries about whether he would rather be age 30 or 31 and what his favorite dinosaur is, which he said is T Rex. “I was super blessed to be at TTE working with kids,” said Evan. “The perspective they have on life and what they deal with every day is adversity, that’s a real challenge. I commit myself to the impact I leave on people, on or off the field, that’s where the real legacy lies.”

Teachers integrated the visit into ongoing classroom learning. Students helped make frosting and practiced fine motor skills while decorating, then used the experience as material for writing assignments and reflection. “When looking for organizations to partner with on behalf of my students, I look for groups whose mission centers on enriching lives and working with children,” said SSN teacher Jennifer Di Capo. “I knew my students would truly enjoy having a professional football player come into their classroom and take time to just be with them.”

Local significance rests in both the immediate benefits and the longer term precedent for community involvement. Visits like this provide direct social and emotional support for students, increase engagement in classroom activities, and give families a memorable experience that reinforces inclusion. They also illustrate how private foundations can supplement school efforts at a time when districts face competing budget priorities, by bringing volunteers, visibility, and targeted programming into classrooms.

For families and community members interested in the foundation and future outreach, the Evan Engram Foundation maintains a presence on Instagram at @EvanEngramFoundation. The Timber Trail visit demonstrated how high profile partners can help enrich school life and support students with diverse learning needs.
