Free donuts, hot chocolate, and the chance to find a golden egg pulled Castle Pines families to The Ridge Golf Course on Saturday as the city's Parks and Recreation Department staged its annual Egg Scramble for children 11 and under.

The event opened at 10 a.m. at 1414 Castle Pines Pkwy with staggered start times divided across three age groups, a design intended to keep younger and older children from competing for the same eggs and to prevent the crowding that can flatten an egg hunt into a sprint for the fastest kids. The city asked adults on the field to limit their own collecting so every child had a realistic shot at filling a basket.

A costumed character was on hand for photos, and the golden egg carried a special prize for whichever child found it. Entry was free; the only firm requirement was that every child be accompanied by an adult throughout the scramble.

The Egg Scramble is one piece of a broader spring slate the city has been rolling out for April. Pickleball programming, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meetings, and city council sessions are all scheduled in the weeks ahead, and the city has flagged its website as the check-in point for any last-minute weather changes that could affect outdoor events.

Castle Pines, incorporated in 2008 and now home to roughly 16,000 residents, manages more than 1,850 acres of open space and 122 acres of parks across the community. Events like the Egg Scramble serve a dual purpose: they draw families onto city-managed property, and they create low-threshold entry points for residents to discover volunteer opportunities and future programming.

Families planning to attend upcoming spring events should check castlepinesco.gov for registration deadlines, weather updates, and the full April programming calendar from the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department.
