Castle Rock brings back free outdoor summer fitness series
Free workouts returned to Philip S. Miller Park and Festival Park, with Fitness Fridays running June 5-Aug. 28 and Yoga in the Park on Sunday mornings.

Castle Rock brought back its free outdoor Summer Fitness series, giving residents a no-cost way to work out through the warm months at Philip S. Miller Park and Festival Park. The lineup centers on Fitness Fridays, a rotating set of workouts that runs from June 5 through Aug. 28, and Yoga in the Park on Sunday mornings.
The schedule was built to be easy to use and easy to join. Castle Rock said the series is open to all ages and fitness levels, a design meant to make exercise feel less like a commitment to an expensive gym membership and more like a simple summer routine. For families, retirees and people just getting started with exercise, the free classes offer a low-pressure alternative that fits around school breaks, changing work schedules and the longer daylight hours of summer.

The town has also tied the series to some of its most visible fitness amenities. Philip S. Miller Park already draws attention for Challenge Hill and the FitGround, two features Castle Rock regularly points to as part of its active, health-conscious identity. By pairing those permanent amenities with organized outdoor classes, the town is using its parks as more than open space. It is turning them into places where residents can build exercise into daily life without extra cost.
That matters in a community where summer routines often shift and families start looking for structured activities close to home. Free programming reduces the barrier to entry for people who might not otherwise sign up for paid classes or long-term fitness packages, and it gives residents a simple reason to use public parks more often. The series also supports a broader civic goal: keeping Castle Rock’s public spaces active, visible and tied to everyday community life rather than occasional special events.
For Douglas County residents looking for an affordable way to stay moving, the pitch is straightforward. A regular class on Friday, a yoga session on Sunday, and two familiar parks in town were enough to turn Castle Rock’s summer fitness push into one of the easiest free workouts available locally.
