The Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock needs helping hands to run the county's largest summer event, and organizers are now accepting volunteer applications for the 2026 Fair & Rodeo, scheduled July 24 through August 2.

Douglas County opened its volunteer recruitment through the Join DougCo portal at douglasvolunteers.com, where residents can browse available shifts, view role descriptions and register directly. Positions span a wide range of responsibilities, from information-booth ambassadors and greeters to golf-cart drivers and volunteer command support, along with hospitality and general customer-service roles. Golf-cart driver applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid Colorado driver's license; most other positions are entry-level and open to first-time volunteers.

The county is flagging the second weekend, July 31 through August 2, as the highest-need stretch, when crowd sizes and event programming peak. Organizers are urging early registration, citing limited availability on those peak days and the logistical complexity of staffing a multi-day event across livestock shows, rodeo performances, entertainment stages and vendor areas.

Every volunteer receives four complimentary grounds tickets, snacks and refreshments during shifts, miscellaneous supplies and eligibility for door-prize drawings. Students can also earn community-service credit, making the Fair & Rodeo one of the more practical ways for younger residents to log hours while participating in a major county event.

The Fair & Rodeo draws attendees from across the region and relies heavily on volunteer labor to manage visitor flow, coordinate animal-handling logistics and maintain safety throughout the grounds. Robust volunteer turnout directly affects operational costs and helps keep attendance prices accessible for families.

Interested residents can register and claim specific shifts at douglasvolunteers.com, where the county's full list of openings for the July 24 through August 2 run is posted. Additional volunteer resources and role descriptions are available through the Fair & Rodeo section of the county's main website at douglas.co.us.
