Fatal Crash on I-25 Northbound Closes Highway in Lone Tree

A deadly multi-vehicle crash closed northbound Interstate 25 between RidgeGate Parkway and Lincoln Avenue in Lone Tree for several hours early Sunday morning, leaving at least one person dead and prompting urgent traffic advisories from two Douglas County law enforcement agencies.

Lone Tree Police posted to X at 4:30 a.m. Sunday warning drivers the closure would remain in place for another three to four hours. "Multiple vehicle accident at NB I-25 at Lincoln Ave. NB I-25 shut down at Ridge Gate, expected for 3-4 hours. Avoid the area," the department wrote.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, which dispatched deputies to assist Lone Tree with the investigation, issued a separate traffic alert confirming the full extent of the shutdown. "Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies are currently on scene assisting with a major crash investigation on I-25," the department posted. "Northbound lanes are completely shut down between RidgeGate Parkway and Lincoln Avenue." Both agencies asked drivers to avoid the corridor and plan alternate routes.

The number of vehicles involved and the full count of injured people remained unknown at the time of early morning reporting. The investigation was ongoing as of those initial advisories, with details on additional injuries still unclear.

For those traveling northbound through southern Douglas County on Sunday morning, the RidgeGate Parkway and Lincoln Avenue interchange, one of the primary access points connecting Lone Tree's retail and residential corridors to the highway, remained inaccessible while investigators worked the scene.

Lone Tree Police and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
