Fuel spill closes South Parker Road, causes Parker traffic delays
About 100 gallons of diesel spilled near Parkglenn Way, shutting both directions of South Parker Road and snarling Parker commutes until crews contained it.

A commercial fuel carrier spilled diesel fuel along Colorado 83 near Parkglenn Way in Parker, forcing both directions of South Parker Road to close and backing up traffic on one of Douglas County’s busiest commuter routes.
South Metro Fire Rescue said the hazardous materials incident was reported around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, April 16, near Parkglenn Way and Lincoln Avenue. Dispatch audio later described the spill as roughly 100 gallons of diesel fuel, a size that turned a routine corridor into an emergency response zone and pushed delays far beyond the immediate scene.
Fire officials said the leak was stopped in about 30 minutes. Even after the flow was cut off, remediation crews were expected to stay on scene to remove contaminants and scrub the pavement, work that is essential after a petroleum spill because leftover fuel can leave roads slick, create vapor concerns and send pollutants into nearby drainage if it is not cleaned quickly and thoroughly.
The closure hit a major south metro connection at a peak travel time, with traffic held in both directions while crews worked. For Parker drivers, that meant detours and delays along South Parker Road, a corridor that carries daily commutes, school traffic and business access through the heart of the town. The response also underscores how a single fuel release can ripple beyond the incident itself, disrupting nearby stores, offices and neighborhoods until the roadway is cleared and reopened.
